Wood shakes have been used in North America and worldwide for centuries. Using natural wood adds a classic, time honored touch to your home's exterior. Johnson Roofing & Construction can install wood shakes made by a variety of manufacturers and types of wood. We prefer Western Red Cedar shakes because cedar wood creates a natural insulating effect, is environmentally friendly, and is a Class 4 impact resistant roofing product.

Johnson Roofing & Construction only uses wood shakes from manufacturers who are PEFC certified. PEFC certified manufacturers harvest raw material from sustainably managed forests, ensuring products produced therefrom are renewable. In fact, wood shakes and shingles are the only renewable roofing and siding resource, 99.99% of the raw material is used in their production, and they can decrease heating and cooling costs by up to 15%.

Despite popular belief, wood shakes and shingles are a very durable option for your next roof. Warranties on shakes range between forty (40) and fifty (50) years, and warranties on shingles range between thirty (30) and forty (40) years. With correct care and maintenance, a wood shake roof can last two or three times as long as some laminated asphalt roofs.
